In the reading section of CBSE 10th English exam, students and experts claimed that the passage had easy questions. Few questions consumed more time than usual, shared the students and experts.
Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE conducted the class 10 English exam (Language and Literature) today, on February 26, 2024. As per initial reactions of students, CBSE Class 10 English question paper was easy but lengthy. Teachers shared that the passage questions were very easy but students found it lengthy. The reading section of question paper had general passages.
As per the CBSE 10th English sample paper, the Language and literature question paper carries three sections- Reading, Grammar & Writing and Literature. The paper was of 80 marks and candidates got 3 hours to finish the test. The section A, reading skill of Communicative English comprised of 22 marks. Section B- writing skills section was of 22 marks. The third section grammar was of 10 marks. CBSE Class 10 English Langauge and Literature’s section A was reading- (20 marks), Grammar and writing was of 10 marks each. Maximum weightage was of Literature Textbook and Supplementary reading text.
As per Dr. Akshi Priya, HOD English Department, MTG Learning Media , The CBSE board class 10 English (Language and Literature) was conducted today across the nation Section A, the discursive is easily attemptable and requires basic lexical knowledge. The questions are rather attainable. Whilst, the second passage that is factual is comparatively tricky with questions suitable to analyze a student’s interpretation and evaluation skills.
Section B has been divided into two parts. Under the Grammar section, all topics of grammar have been covered and students got enough choice to attempt them easily. The questions of Creative Writing skills are based on common topics of day-to-day occurrences. This section is easy and scoring. The clues given in this section help students to generate ideas and write solutions
CBSE 10TH English Exam: Teachers Reaction
Richa Sharma, VidyaGyan School-Bulandshahr shares, “The CBSE English Language and Literature class X Board Exam took place on 22nd February 2024 nationwide, required students to write a 3-hour paper worth a total of 80 marks.
The paper consisted of three sections: Reading (Section A), Writing and Grammar (Section B), and Literature (Section C).”
It was a balanced paper with a good mix of textual as well as competency-based questions meant for students with high, mediocre, and average language proficiency. Structured similarly to the CBSE-issued sample paper, the paper was somewhat lengthy and required critical thinking to solve. The questions demanded skills such as decoding, analysis, inference, interpretation, critical thinking, and reasoning.
“The question paper was attemptable and was a good balance of complex, moderate and simple questions. Literature and Writing Section had certain application questions whereas Reading Comprehension was more of a direct type. It included questions from the syllabus for all the sections – Reading, Writing, Grammar and Literature. The questions were based on the pattern and style of sample paper shared by CBSE at the beginning of the academic year. Certain questions in the Writing Section expected the learners to critically analyze the given cue / situation and provide their interpretation,” shares Richa Udani, English Teacher at Billabong High International School, Malad.
Talking about the Grammar section, students shared that the Grammar was fairly easy. They shared that the Literature section difficulty were same throughout the sets. Coming to the subjective questions, the students shared that the questions were easy. Only two RTCs had high-order-thinking questions. Overall, the questions were easy.

CBSE conducted the Class 10 English exam today in a single shift between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. CBSE students were given 3 hours of time to attempt the exam paper. Following the pattern, students were given a total of 15 minutes to go through the questions thoroughly.
