Best Short Speech on Internationl Literacy Day – 08 September 2023

Respected Principal Sir, Teachers and My dear friends Good Morning to All. And This is Vedant from Class 9th.

There are two persons went to the market, they purchased goods from the shop. While choosing the items, one checked the prices, expiry dates but other ignored all this. And they paid the bill. Just think a while who was right or who was aware ? One who checked the price and expiry date was aware. Do you know why he did this ? It is because he was literate person. A literate person can read the instructions. And when we have the confidence to read, when we have the confidence to learn both in and out of the classroom then we continuesly expand our knowledge and learn new skills in order to keep up with the pace of change.

As we are celebrating ‘International Literacy Day’ today, Let me first wish you all ‘A very happy literacy day’ ! What exactly is literacy ? Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that let us communicate effectively and make sense of the world. Dear friends, we are able to read and write. But it is unbelievable that there are so many people living and working in our own community who are not even able to read and write. Can we imagine proceeding our day today life without the basic ability to read and write ? Clearning out illiteracy in every local community around the world is what International Literacy Day is all about.

UNESCO declated September 8 as International Literacy day in 1965 to eradicate illiteracy, to remind all what is importance of literacy for societies and communities. The theme for International Literacy Day 2023 is “Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies”.

Dear friends, Lets get perfection in literacy, lets literacy skill heighten our overall vocabulary, improve our thought process, and place clarity while expressing our emotions. And lets enhance our ability to read and write in a better way.

Here I end. Thank you all.
